The SCTE, President's Welcome

President's Welcome Welcome to the UK SCTE website. Who are we? Basically a group of Engineers, Technicians, Installers and like-minded people involved in Broadband Telecommunications who like to share our technical expertise with others to improve the general standing of the industry and those involved in it. We do this by holding lecture meetings, producing a quarterly technical journal, providing training courses, taking part in Standards activities and not least arranging social events where members can network. We are not a trade organisation but constituted as a ‘Learned Society’; which really means that we are working directly for the benefit of our individual members, not primarily for MSOs and Technology Providers. Nonetheless we have many supporters (Patrons) from these areas who see the overall benefit to the industry of such a Society. As a Learned Society we are able to provide accreditation and certification for our members, giving them professional standing within the Industry. Full Members and Fellows are allowed to use the designations MSCTE and FSCTE after their names. The Society is run on a volunteer basis by a group of senior engineers elected at our AGM. We do it and give our time freely because we believe in the benefits that the Society can bring to the industry. We are associated with the US SCTE through a Mutual Cooperation Agreement allowing access and discounts on each other’s services but the organisations are run entirely separately. Although based in the UK we have members throughout Europe and the World; there is an active Benelux Group that runs it’s own lecture programme. In analogue days we used to represent the ‘PAL’ side of Cable TV but now, I guess, we are more ‘DVB’. We hope you like the idea of a Society serving the Broadband Telecommunications industry and want to be part of it. Application forms are available online and we will be pleased to welcome anyone involved in Broadband who meets the category requirements.
