  INTRODUCING THE SCTE

THE SOCIETY OF CABLE TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERS was founded in 1945 by a group of engineers working on cable television projects around the UK. Originally the Society was called "The Society of Relay Engineers", then became "The Society of Cable Television Engineers", and finally adopted the present title in 1994, broadening its scope at the same time to embrace the entire world of communications by cable. Today the Society has members across the entire globe and a range of activities, some of which are shown here.

The main activities of the SCTE are:

Training in practice   Training - investment in the future.

The SCTE Training Courses have achieved wide acceptance as the standard for young technicians wishing to enter the field of cable telecommunications. The training courses are cleverly designed to be used for both Distance Learning and for Instructor-led use. The courses are used in-house by a number of operating companies, and SCTE instructors can be found working with would-be engineers in a variety of organisations both in the UK and overseas. They offer an excellent grounding in basic principles and mathematics that make up the framework of telecommunications technology, and provide the foundations of an engineering career.

Use the menu on the left or follow this link to see full details of the training courses.

Lecture Meetings

Knowledge updates for a fast-moving technology.

SCTE Lecture Meetings are held in London and now also in Europe, covering a wide range of telecommunications technologies delivered by industry experts. They take place over a full day and up to five topics are presented and discussed. The discussions that follow the lectures are stimulating and lively, reflecting the high standards of knowledge and skill of our membership.

The Meetings are the place to discover emerging technologies in the field of Digital communications, evolving architectures of Cable Television networks, telephony options in the digital age, and new thought in supervisory and monitoring systems for a variety of networks. London meetings close with a social gathering for two hours aboard a floating bar-restaurant on the River Thames, a chance to talk shop or just to unwind before going home.

Keeping in touch.

Cable Telecommunication Engineering is the journal of the Society.

It carries in-depth contributions from top-flight engineers in the telecommunications industry. It appears quarterly in A4 format and full colour. Regular features include New Products and Services and a Service Finder section plus Diary Dates.

Since September, 2003 issue, CTE incorporates material previously published in the SCTE newsletter, 'Crosstalk'. CTE, now, keeps members in touch with the society, reports on activities and also provides refreshers on established technical topics.

Social Events

Formal & informal.

The Society's main social event is The Annual Dinner Dance & Awards. Other events may be staged as the need arises and all represent excellent value for money. Good food and good music play a large part in the occasions, and with the addition of good friends make Society membership an imperative.
