SCTE 2008 Golf Day – Tuesday 12th August 2008

The SCTE’s Annual Golf Day was combined this year with the Informa (Cable & Satellite Europe) Golf Day in order to get a bigger field together.
The De Vere Wokefield Park, near Reading in Berkshire, was booked for Tuesday 12th August 2008 and it turned out to be a great team event.
Some of the best business is done on the golf course and so it's important to do this in beautifully inspiring surroundings. Wokefield Park offers a fantastic golf experience, whatever your handicap or playing ability.

Entries were open to teams of four. The price per person was £56.00 inclusive of coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, 18 holes of golf and a 3-course dinner and prize giving in the evening.

Severe gales and showers on the day, however, did not put a stop to the 56 players made up of 14 teams for the day.

The day started with the usual British grey and overcast skies and a huge surge of rain. Fortunately, this cleared in time for the first group who tee'd off at 10:30am.

This US PGA-standard 7000-yard championship golf course, boasting elevated tees and nine lakes, offered a different challenge for the players. Some of the best business is done on the golf course, however this wasn't the only deal to negotiate - the venue lived up to its expectation with a cross wind across the whole course making every shot difficult to execute.

“We did see some majestic driving from Richard Burton, from Concurrent, who passed Barry Killengrey’s boomed drive of 292 yards on the 11th to clinch the ‘Longest Drive’ at 298,” Informa explained. “ Some of the short game was also flawless with Chris Johnstone firing his shot to within 3ft of the 17th 157 yard hole.

“Stuart Pert from Flomatic fired a good round to claim 35 points and the 2008 Trophy, Matt Harrison of Seachange finished second with 34 points and Dean Stockwell finished 3rd with 30 points. Whilst the individuals were battling the windswept British Isles, the day was a team effort and everybody needed to pull together and post good scores.”

NDS won the Team event with 99 points, followed closely by Ineoquest, with third and fourth places going to Flomatic and Thomson Broadband.

The day’s sponsors were the SCTE, Impeq and Caspian Broadband.
