The SCTE Golf Day, 2004.

2nd SCTE Golf Day, 7th May 2004.

Organized by Frank Summerfield of Harmonic, the 2nd SCTE Golf Day was held at the Staverton Park Country Club near Daventry. Despite the fact that the weather for the previous few days being so bad that the course had been closed and buggies and trolleys still banned, Frank managed to arrange a day where the sun shined and all was right with the world.

  A Full Day's Entertainment.

Altogether 11 teams took to the fairways, having been fortified by bacon rolls at dawn. The day was organized around a morning 9 holes Texas Scramble and an 18 hole Stapleford competition in the afternoon. After a short relaxation at the 19th, the day ended with an awards and prize giving dinner.

Team Winners

Winners of the Texas Scramble were an ADC team lead by Rick Hutchings together with Andy McClelland and Andy Fairhall from Aastra. Second were the team from Teleste with Kevin and Paulie Barrie, Mark Griffiths and Ben Allwright of TA Services.

The Team Stapleford was won (despite worries about banditry) with 57 points by a Harmonic team lead by Alistair Crook with Colin Whitbread of Telewest and Andy Bell and Mark Harrison of ntl. Runners up were the TVC team of Jonathan Rigby, Mike Boddington and Mark Dudley

Individual Winners

The individual winner of the Stapleford competition was Colin Whitbread of Telewest with 39 points with Andy Fairhall of Aastra coming second. A prize for the lowest individual score, i.e. the wooden spoon, was won by your reporter who showed an utter dislike for short grass and went lame after 9 holes in the afternoon. I was beaten to the 19th by John Green of Harmonic who also took an early bath.

The trophy for the longest drive, at a creditable 280 yards, went to Frank Summerfield whilst the 'nearest to the pin' award went to a new (never played before) and rising star, Bev (Tiger Montgomery) Allgood, the SCTE's answer to Laura Davies. Interviewed several times during the following week she said "did I mention that I won the nearest to the hole trophy" and "I would like to thank my.....drone, drone..."

Thanks

The presentation of awards ended with a vote of thanks for the great organization by Frank Summerfield ably supported by Beverley in the SCTE Office. The Society also thanks the Patron Members who sponsored teams and provided additional gifts and prizes: ADC, Concurrent, Harmonic, Scientific Atlanta, Teleste and TVC. Plans are already underway for next the next tournament planned for early Spring next year.
