SCTE 2010 Individual Awards

The SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) held its prestigious 2010 Individual Achievement Awards at its annual Gala Dinner on Saturday 24 April 2010 at the unique venue of Lincoln's Inn Great Hall in London.

The categories awarded this year are for Technician of the Year and Member of the Year. All members of the Society received nomination forms and voting was possible via the website.  The shortlist for the first two categories was decided purely by the number of nominations received, with the Executive Committee adjudicating on the final winners. The winners on the night were:-

Winner: Brian Lauchlan, Principal Engineer, Virgin Media

Winner: Steve Flanagan, Managing Director, Cotswold Communications

Winner: Howard (Scotty) Flink, Owner, Global Defence Communications

In addition, the Society awarded three Honorary Fellowships of the Society. Honorary fellowships are awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to both the Broadband industry and to the Society. Winners of Honorary Fellowships were Rien Baan (Secretary of the SCTE’s Benelux Group), Mark Dzuban (current President of the North American SCTE) and Eberhard Gauger (Secretary to the CENELEC TC209 Technical Committee).

SCTE also announced the winners of its two 2010 IBC Bursaries (covering travel, hotel cost for four nights and a full conference registration for the IBC Amsterdam convention in September).  The awards are worth around £2000 each and this year the two recipients will be Steve Wells (Virgin Media, UK) and Vladimir Dedolli (Abcom, Albania).

Founded in 1945, the SCTE is a Learned Society and non-profit making organisation whose aim is to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. The Society particularly concerns itself with the training and career advancement of technical professionals in the field.
