Converging to a Broader View

The convergence of telecommunication systems and delivery methods has, paradoxically, widened the range of interests of cable telecommunication engineers. This section of the SCTE website is intended to provide information about other organisations, activities and sites which have relevance for 21st century cable telecomminications networks.
     

ANGA

The German Association of Private CATV-Operators. The ANGA Cable Show, continues to grow in size and influence.

IBC

The SCTE is one of the partners which owns and operates the IBC. As technical developments continue more and more people think of the IBC as the International Broadband Convention. Its relevance to cable telecommunication engineers, therefore, grows year by year.

SCTE - Headquarters in the US

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), headquartered in the United States, is a non-profit professional association that provides technical leadership for the telecommunications industry and serves its members through professional development, standards, certification and information.

ECCA

ECCA is the trade association for European cable operators. It holds an annual meeting, in a different European city each year, which is a combination of AGM, conference, exhibition and social gathering.

TechExpo

The US SCTE holds an annual convention and exhibition, called its 'Tech-Expo', which is the largest show dedicated to cable telecommunication engineering in the world.

Broadband Wireless

Developments in wireless technology look set to lead to greater deployment of broadband wireless services either to extend the coverage of partially cabled areas or to bring services to less densely populated areas. The Society, through its work on various standards bodies is closely involved in these developments.

Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG).

The Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG) is Government's key advisory group on promoting the roll-out and take-up of broadband services. Though not a technical body, much of its work is concerned with how technical developments can speed the deployment of broadband in the UK.

  The SCTE in Pakistan

The SCTE hopes to provide certification for installers and technicians in Pakistan based on its training courses.

Restricted Service Licences (RSLs)

RSLs are licences issued by the ITC for the use of analogue frequencies for broadcasting to specific locations or for a specific event. The applicant has to pay for frequency clearance work to ensure that the transmissions will not interfere with other broadcasters. Cable channels are not taken into account. Other Shows and Events

As an internationally recognised technical society, the SCTE gets invited to visit or participate in many events around the world.
